Show your glucose on a watch, bike computer or widget

Create your Nightscout link in Enhance-d and paste it into a Garmin, Apple Watch, Wear OS, Fitbit, Karoo or any other Nightscout display

Enhance-d can publish your glucose as a Nightscout feed. Nightscout is the open format that hundreds of watch faces, data fields, widgets and apps already know how to read, so instead of waiting for an Enhance-d app on every device, you create one link and paste it into whichever display you like.

The link only reads. Nothing on your watch can change anything in Enhance-d.

Before you start

  • Watch and widget access is part of Pro. On a free plan the screen shows Included with Pro and an Unlock with Pro button instead of a link.
  • Update Enhance-d to version 2.5.0 or later. If the screen says the feature needs an update, that is what it means.
  • Connect a glucose source first, such as your CGM. The feed shows the same readings the app does, so if there is no glucose in Enhance-d, there is nothing for your watch to show. See Which devices and apps Enhance-d connects to.
  • Treat the link like a password. Anyone who has it can read your glucose, from anywhere in the world. You can revoke it at any time.
  • It is not for dosing. These are the same readings as the app, which are not for making treatment decisions. Use your own meter or CGM app for that.
  1. Open Enhance-d and go to Settings.
  2. Under Integrations, tap Watch and widget access.
  3. Read Before you create one, then tap Create link.
  4. Confirm with Create link again.
  5. A card headed Your link appears with four values. Tap any of them to copy it.

You can come back to this screen and copy the values again at any time. The token and full URL are hidden until you tap the eye icon, so nobody reads them over your shoulder.

Which value goes where

Nightscout apps rarely take one string. Most have a box for the address and a separate box for the token, and some want the address without https://. So the app gives you each piece separately. Copy whichever ones your app asks for.

In Enhance-dLooks likeUse it when your app asks for
Hostnameyourname-a1b2c3.ns.enhance-d.comA "Nightscout URL" or "host" with no https:// - most Garmin watch faces and data fields
Linkhttps://yourname-a1b2c3.ns.enhance-d.comA "Nightscout URL" or "site address" that starts with https://
Token (secret)a long string of letters and numbersAn "access token", "token" or "API token". Paste it on its own
Full URLthe link with ?token=... on the endA single box that takes everything at once

A few things that save a lot of head-scratching:

  • Use a token, not an API secret. If your app offers both an "API secret" (sometimes "password") and a "token", fill in the token and leave the secret blank. Enhance-d feeds do not use an API secret.
  • Paste, do not type. A single wrong character in the token and the watch stays blank.
  • Units follow your Enhance-d setting. The feed tells apps whether you use mmol/L or mg/dL. If your watch still shows the wrong units, change it in that app's own settings.

Where to use it

Anything that reads Nightscout works with your Enhance-d link. Nightscout keeps a well-maintained guide to the watch faces and apps for each platform, and these links go straight to the right section:

In each case the setup is the same: install the watch face, data field or app it suggests, open its own settings, choose the Nightscout data source (the one with a token, if there is a choice), and paste in your hostname (or link) and token from the table above.

Garmin watch face or data field

Garmin is the one we have tested end to end, so here it is step by step. It works the same way on Garmin watches and on Edge bike computers.

  1. On your phone, open the Connect IQ app (or the Connect IQ Store inside Garmin Connect).
  2. Install a Nightscout watch face or data field. Two we have tested with Enhance-d are xDrip+/Spike/Nightscout Watch (a watch face) and CGM Datafield 2 (a data field you add to an activity screen). Any other Nightscout option in the Garmin section of the guide above works too.
  3. Open the watch face or data field's own settings. In the Connect IQ app, tap My Watch Faces (or My Data Fields), tap the one you just installed, then tap Settings.
  4. Set BG data source to Nightscout URL secured with token (optional). Other watch faces word this differently, but pick the Nightscout option that mentions a token.
  5. Paste your Hostname into the Nightscout URL field - no https://, nothing after it.
  6. Paste your Token into the token field.
  7. Save, and sync your watch.
  8. For a watch face, select it on the watch. For a data field, add it to a data screen in the activity profile you want it on.

Give it five minutes. Garmin only lets watch faces and data fields fetch new data every five minutes, so a setup that is working can look blank at first. Keep your phone nearby with Bluetooth on - Garmin fetches through the Connect app on your phone.

If nothing shows up

  1. Wait five minutes, especially on Garmin. Then check again.
  2. Check the address box. If the app wants a hostname, remove https:// and anything after .com. If it wants a full link, make sure https:// is there.
  3. Re-copy the token from Enhance-d and paste it again, rather than editing what is there.
  4. Check Enhance-d has recent glucose. Open the app: if the latest reading there is old, the watch will show the same old reading.
  5. Look at "Last used" under your link in Enhance-d. If it still says Not used yet, the device has not reached us, which points at the address or token. If it shows a recent time, the device is connecting fine and the problem is in how that app displays it.
  6. If the screen says "Created before this could be shown again", tap Create new link to get a token you can see, then paste it into your devices.

Still stuck? Message us with which watch or app you are using and what Last used says. That tells us which end to look at.

  • Create new link replaces the token. The old one stops working immediately, and you paste the new token into each device you still use. Your hostname does not change, so you only need to update the token.
  • Revoke turns the feed off entirely. Every device using it stops straight away. Create a new link whenever you want it back.
